The Sermon on the Couch
This week was an interaction experience week, We had an ami drop us, We passed out a lot of Venez Voyez invites, we made cookies with the jeunes, went to Bruxelles twice and Liège once,Witnessed two public demonstrations, We had exchanges, Venez Voyez, Christmas Adam Raclette party with a couple families from the ward, and Christmas eve and Christmas Celebrations with members.
One of the members of the Namur Ward, Frère Rudy, this week he dressed up as Papa Noël and walked around his office building and took pictures with all his coworkers and children, then came to the ward Christmas Party dressed as Papa Noël. We got some good photos with him.
This week during our weekly visit with our recent convert Jean-Paul. We were talking about L'expiation (the atonement) and le Plan du Salut (the Plan of Salvation). And he went off on his tangent about healing people with the priesthood and how repentance works and we had to help him come to understand that the Aaronic priesthood you can not heal people and that even then people are healed by the priesthood not the priesthood bearer, but then he kept going and he got really into this rant about how unrepentant the world is. He eventually stood up and was like yelling about how its pretty cool that we love Jesus enough to come to belgium to teach people about him. it was very very entertaining. So therefore it was The Sermon on the Couch.
I now have a handshake with one of the primary kids from the ward. It is pretty cool i will have to get a video of us doing it.
Oh how could I forget, I am teaching a family from El Salvador that doesn't speak french or English so I am utilizing the language of Spanish. I do not know spanish. So this will be interesting.
So on Thursday night, while on exchanges, we had to pick up a member of our ward and take him to the Badoux's for our normal thursday night dinner with the Badoux Family. Gilbert does not speak any french. about no english. Our train from brussels back to Namur was late and so naturally you call someone to let them know that you will be late, However I do not speak french to be able to communicate that with people. I also do not have a phone to be able to call. So somehow we manage to meet this guy out in the boonies north west of Namur. But then the fun begins. Elder Frank is super shy and not very willing to speak, and so I had to translate Gilbert's Spanglish to English so that frank could understand. I understood most of the words in spanish due to the Latin roots and similarities to french or due to sitting up in the front at work and listening to Linette and Gus speak spanish all the time, I did however get hung up on the word iglesia...
anyways I figured out that he Was bringing 10 friends to our Venez Voyez but they only speak spanish.
But then we got to the badoux's and he wanted to tell them that. They do not speak spanish or english so then I had to think of what he was saying is spanish, translate that into my english, and then into my french. my brain was and continues to be absolutely fried.
I am very grateful for the opportunity to be here in belgium and to be on a mission, I have already seen a big growth in the way I act and how i react to problems. I know that that is from choosing to focus on the things that I can control and choosing to do good and then just rolling with the rest. There is no point in getting upset about things you can't control, but you can always learn from them and try to be better and that is what I have been trying to do. I do miss my family and all my friends but I can sacrifice that time for this.
This week I started doing President Sorensen's challenge of adding to President Nelson's and not only finding the names of Christ but the Attributes, words and Doctrines. Except I started the book of mormon in Ether, because a member in the ward Frère Istace told us that is what the Elder's challenged him to do. I really like reading the book of mormon this way, you get to moroni's promise in Moroni 10 and continue to read through the rest of the book of mormon as you wait for your answer. I would Challenge you all to start the book of Mormon in Ether to moroni and then start in Nephi. I know that as we all read and ask, the holy ghost will testify of the truthfulness of the Book Of Mormon.
Je vous aime,
ab
