I can speak french...?
So like all of the sudden, I can speak french. Not by any means have I mastered this language in any way that I want to but, I can talk to be people and be a functioning member of society.
Elder Belanger welcomes Elder Johnson to Namur |
I have met at least 3 new amis (actual amis, not just amis so I have numbers... do not get me started on that crap.) I met this Belge Lady who studied in New Zealand and Learned english (She speaks french and really good english), A couple college students who were interested in the fact that I was from Las Vegas and I was interested to find out that they want to be coroners... Belgium is an odd place, it is my favorite, but it is very odd.
I also used my family history as a way to stop people, on my mom's side of the family we are Belge (!!!!!!!!) so I use that as a way to contact people. Asking them where cool places are and where my GGGGGreat Grandfather lived. Oost Vlanderlaan. It is just a little northwest of Bruxelles.
I also have been asking people for help with pronunciation, I am sure it is really funny to watch me try to pronounce all these crazy words I have found in the dictionary. And when I switch from the way I talk in english to trying to speak french. My voice drops in octaves (that is what mom says anyways).
I love the people here in Belgium so much, they are all so great! They are all really nice to me. They are willing to help with my french, and also help me find les meilleur restaurants ici à Namur! ( the best restaurants here in Namur!). People like when their voice is heard and you aren't trying to cram a Plan of Salvation pamphlet down their throat. I have seen the people open up more to me, when I become their friend first and show them who I am.
(if anyone knows a list of subjunctive triggers for french that would be much appreciated...)
It will be a sad end when I have to leave Namur at the end of this transfer. It has been a good 6 months. This ward has some of the best members and some of the most awesome Youth.
